New World Health Organisation Initiatives for Womens Health : Fade Out the Problem
31/08/2008
On 3-4 April 2008 RUBSI and the Department of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia, co-organised a Lecture and Round Table Discussion on the topic "New World Health Organisation Initiatives for Womens Health: Fade Out the Problem".
The lecture was given by Professor Valerie Fleming, Director of the World Health Organisation Collaboration, CenterGlasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow, and was attended by many nursing students, representatives of the Cyprus Ministry of Health and of NGOs involved in Health. The Round Table discussion was attended by Prof. Flemming, representatives of the organising bodies, of NGOs, such as the Cyrus Anticancer Association and the Europa Donna Cyprus, as well as representatives of the Nursing Schools.
The Discussion focused on the quality of nursing provided to patients suffering with cancer and highlighted the necessity of the training of nurses in specialised fields and illnesses. Another important issue that was discussed is the deficiency of local nursing staff in Cyprus and the consequent use of foreign nurses. This seems to have consequences in the quality of nursing care provided, mostly caused by the fact that foreign nurses do not speak the language fluently.
